Introduction to Becoming an 'Askable' Adult

Providing care and support to teens to make healthy decisions can be a challenging job. This workshop is designed for anyone interested in improving their communication skills in supporting adolescents' healthy decisions. Every moment with a teen is precious; this workshop is designed to ensure those rare moments are positive encounters that have the most benefit for the teen. Never miss an opportunity - know the techniques that will have the biggest impact. 

Objectives: 

  • Describe the role of an Askable Adult
  • Describe the link between brain development, hormones, physical maturation, sexual exploration, and teen pregnancy
  • Describe how trauma can impact a young person's behavior and communication skills

Trainer

Susan Locke

Susan joined Fact Forward in August 2018 as the Training Associate and transitioned into the role of Partner Engagement Associate in October 2019 and then Program Support Specialist in July 2021. In this role, she is responsible for assisting in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all Fact Forward educational programming, technical assistance efforts, and internal staff development opportunities. Locke earned a Bachelor of Arts in Women’s and Gender Studies from the University of South Carolina. She was born and raised in NC but now calls Columbia, SC home. Prior to joining Fact Forward full-time, Locke worked as an intern in early 2018. She is excited to continue her passion for reproductive justice through her work with Fact Forward.
