Meet our intern, Megan Austin!
What school are you attending?
The University of South Carolina
What are you studying?
Master of Public Health (MPH) in Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior and a Graduate Certificate in Health Communications concurrently.
What are your career goals?
I want to work in the field planning and promoting health programs to reduce teen pregnancy and infant mortality rates in South Carolina before becoming a professor and conducting research on maternal and child health and sexual health topics.
How does Fact Forward’s work support your future goals?
Fact Forward's focus on reducing teen pregnancy and addressing other maternal and child health and sexual health issues makes this organization the perfect place for me to get experience in this field.
What do you want to gain from your internship with Fact Forward?
I am most excited about simply having experience working within the field for which I am passionate. I am also excited about diving into data on STIs in South Carolina and researching ways to alleviate present disparities.
Why do you feel adolescent reproductive health is crucial to the health of young people?
Decisions made in adolescent years can influence an individual's health and wellbeing later in life, as well as in the present moment. I think that every person, regardless of age, deserves the right to ample education and resources to make well-informed decisions about their health, especially reproductive health. Providing this opportunity can lead to individuals having more control over their health beginning at a young age.
